On a day when quarterbacks failed to lead, the defensive backs ruled. The Boston College secondary registered five interceptions, three in the end zone, to lift the Maroon team (defense) to a 62-49 victory over the Gold squad (offense) in the annual Jay McGillis Memorial spring football game on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. The Maroon finished with six turnovers to three touchdowns scored by the Gold.“Six turnovers is a good day,” said BC coach Jeff Hafley. “I liked the takeaways but at the end of the day I’m not going to judge us off the spring game.“Today was going to be vanilla and in my opinion, if the defense didn’t have a better day with the limitations placed on our offense, than there is something wrong with the defense.”Operational offenseStarting quarterback Emmitt Morehead got a first and goal on the one with a 17-yard hook up with senior wide receiver Taji Johnson. Georgia tight end and 2023 NFL draft prospect Darnell Washington’s football career nearly brought him to Miami once.It was the summer of 2019, and Washington was a five-star recruit from Las Vegas. Flying across the country, he was the star of the Miami Hurricanes’ marquee recruiting event, Paradise Camp, with current UM quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, then a four-star recruit from Connecticut, continuously finding the mammoth tight end in 7-on-7 drills.Washington considered Miami significantly in his recruitment but ultimately decided to become a Georgia Bulldog. Now, Washington, who officially measured in at 6 foot 7 and 264 pounds at the NFL scouting combine, could interest the Miami Dolphins as they are surely looking to fill a need at the position in this draft. It would probably take either a trade up or an unexpected drop in the draft for Washington for Miami to select him. The massive tight end is widely projected to be taken off the board by the time the Dolphins make...Corach Rambler wins after activists delay Grand National

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — In the end, nothing could stop Corach Rambler in another eventful edition of the Grand National. The 8-1 favorite produced a strong finish to win the world-famous horse race, which was delayed for 15 minutes Saturday after animal rights activists scaled fences around the perimeter of the course and got onto the track. Some of the activists apparently attempted to affix themselves to the race fences using glue and lock-on devices, according to the Animal Rising organization, before being taken away by police and security officials.Other activists, some using ladders, were prevented from getting onto the track by security, who shook the outer fences. Local residents were seen helping to keep the activists away from the course. The race was briefly delayed as a result and the 39 horses were kept in the parade ring.Corach Rambler didn’t appear to be affected by the disjointed buildup and gave trainer Lucinda Russell a second victory in the Grand National in...'Do not put your children in blue bathing suits' viral TikTok warns

The Avs have a better chance of making a deeper playoff run than the Nuggets. Even with the injury to captain Gabe Landeskog and the departure of Nazem Kadri, the core of this squad feels similar to last year’s team that won the Stanley Cup. Plus, the NBA West is such a gauntlet, it would be a surprise if the Nuggets got to the Western Conference finals.Victor, CU alumKiz: While the top-seeded Nuggets would be underdogs in a series against Phoenix or Golden State, there’s no team in the NHL West the Avs should fear (although the Los Angeles Kings would be a big, fat pain in the tushie). The staff here at Kickin’ Headquarters says: Let’s jump straight to the conference finals and a duel between Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid to determine the fastest gun in the West.I believe this is the season Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets finally get to the NBA Finals. Despite shortages in personnel over the last several years – especially this year – Antioch Police Chief Steven Ford assured residents that all beats are covered and there are no gaps in service.Ford told the City Council and others that he has restructured operations, collapsing the swing shift to ensure “full city coverage in all beats and districts,” with officers continuing to work 12-hour shifts. There are seven officers and two supervisors every shift, he said.“To be clear, we are not in the dire straits that some may have thought,” Ford said at last week’s council meeting. “We have the adequate coverage that we need…We’re going to do the work and keep the city safe.”The chief, who was hired permanently last fall, gave his first full crime and staffing report on Tuesday – days after it was announced that some two dozen officers were found engaging in racist or homophobic texts.“We need to come together as a community,” he said. “And we all know we’re better, strong...Latest news
